About me - Attila Paszternák portrait artist

I am Attila Paszternák,

a Hugarian portrait artist…

I was born in a small Hungarian village, Mateszalka in 1981. I started drawing more consistently about 15 years ago. In the beginning, it was purely for my entertainment along with the feeling of sensation of a deeply focused state that one can experience during the process of realistic drawing. The more realistic results I wish to achieve in the drawings the more I need to focus to be in the present which helps to switch off my mind and forget the world around me.

I was always interested in art-related activities starting from Primary School, however, my enthusiasm in sports took over for a period so drawing faded into the background for a while but then I have started to deal with it again 15 years ago and it has been playing an important part of my life ever since.

In parallel with portrait drawing, I am constantly improving my knowledge and technique. I teach realistic drawing, organize training and workshops and manage private art lessons where I teach how to draw in one and three dimensions of using pictures and live models. Online drawing tutorial videos will be available soon!

If I had to name an artistic style that is the closest to me, I would have to say that currently, the realistic/photo-realistic style is the one, which is proven in my artworks too. My main goal is to create high-quality portraits and paintings for clients who value the quality and the great attention to detail in handmade artworks.

In addition to portraits, drawings and artworks will be uploaded and be available to order in various categories and themes to serve the client’s different demands and inquiries from the detailed design to the classic-style portraits. I new service “caricatures from a photo” will also be available on the website.

Portrait drawing is probably my old-time favorite but I enjoy drawing animals or pets as well as objects such as cars, bikes, etc. and of course family portraits. In portrait drawing the eye has the most significant meaning as a well-drawn glance makes the character/person come alive and be truly recognizable. I believe this is why I enjoy working in this area of the portrait the most. It’s even more challenging and exciting to draw the eyes from a live model not only from the artist’s point of view but for the model as well.

In today’s digital world, when a picture can be taken with a simple click, I find it very important to understand the value of realistic hand drawing and appreciate the amount of attention and energy that it is applied with.

I am not at all against digital drawing, as it is based on human and technical cooperation, yet it’s important to acknowledge and understand the difference between the two methods and effort put into it. As portrait artist I find it important to highlight the value of authenticity and tradition which approach is clearly reflected in my art works.
